Spring is a time for growth and new connections. Recently, I have been attracted to opportunities to meet new people and learn more about what is out there in the world. I love hearing people’s creative ideas for ways to live our greatest lives. I also enjoy learning about things I might never even consider or actively seek to educate myself about. In discussing what inspires people, their passions emerge; I am fascinated to see how people access and develop their creative genius.
This week I found myself immersed in discussions and presentations with innovators and inventors. In nearby Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, a group calledCoffee and Concepts meets in the early hours before a normal work day. This is a collaborative gathering of communityentrepreneurs that aims to match inventors with investors, educates people about emerging technology, and supports the tinkerers by encouraging them to emerge from the isolation of their garages and homes.
A year ago, Say Roar Studios materialized from one of these meetings. Jeff Drew pitched his concept for a home-grown state-of-the-art movie studio and campus to the group, a dream he has cultivated through his life-long study of greats such as Walt Disney, Spielberg, and George Lucas. Last night, he presented his vision of producing quality motion studio products to the town. This campus will support the creatives in the local area by providing education, apprenticeships, and so much more.
In this large group of mostly adults, a 10-year-old young boy with blue-rimmed glasses took the microphone. Without hesitation, he stated, “I have been taking piano lessons since I was four years old. If you need music on your films, I am the one you need to consult. I will help you.” The room erupted with applause; the panel looked overjoyed with the fearlessness and clarity this young man boldly conveyed. They asked to meet with him after the presentation to get his business card and information. My friend handed him a blank card, I loaned him my pen, and his mom helped him create his first business card.
I truly believe children remind us how to live. He has been studying piano more than half of his life. Truthfully, he is an expert of sorts. As he boldly puts himself out there, he learns, grows, and hones his craft, expanding his horizons as he steps through the doors of opportunity. This night he created and opened his own door. Since last night, I have been wondering, where can I fearlessly create my opportunities? What doors are opening that I may be overlooking?
I am excited for the premiere of The Goldfish Project. I will specifically be looking for this young man’s contribution of musical talent and heart. He already has impacted the world by inspiring a roomful of adults, myself included, through his example of being fearless and bold.
